‘ALL THINGS NEW’ Taking the Virginia Conference from maintenance to mission All Things New is: 1.a proclamation of faith in the abundance of God’s grace through Jesus Christ; 2.a reclaiming of our United Methodist heritage as a missionary movement of God’s Holy Spirit; 3.a vision for spiritual renewal through an invitation fro all churches to be fruitful and to multiply. Undergirded by these foundational understandings, two invitations that shaped a comprehensive strategic plan for the Virginia Conference were approved by an overwhelming majority at Annual Conference. An invitation to Plant and An Invitation to Harvest, designed to transform the culture of the Virginia Conference from maintenance to mission, are now in the process of being implemented. The faithful result of these invitations will be transformed lives through the formation of new faith communities and the renewal of existing faith communities. A report on the implementation of the action steps that form these invitations will be presented at the 2009 Annual Conference in Norfolk. These action steps, included in the “All Things New” report may be found on the conference Web site at www.vaumc.org; click on the “All Things New” logo on the right side. In the articles that follow, you will see how the implementation of the action steps of both of these invitations is beginning to shape the culture of our Virginia Conference. The resourcing of districts, local churches and people is beginning and will continue as structures and resources are aligned towards a common vision. In these reports you will read about the exciting response of persons who desire that their local congregations become “Five Talent Churches,” or who wish to participate in the formation of new faith communities. These responses are made possible as the action steps of “All Things New” are implemented.
